Based in Denver, Black Wolf (or Lee to human friends) is known for playing in a multitude of local acts like Gora Gora Orkestar, Leon and the Revival and Legitimate Front. Lee has also shared the stage with Denver based talents such as Joe King from the Frey, DeVotchka, and the Flobots. Their list of collaborators includes many other Denver based and internationally performing groups such as the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Grammy award winning Latin group Ozomatli. Now, they are looking to the horizon this year to gear up for the first release as Black Wolf.

The Black Wolf lore began when the wolf was born. In the earliest days of domestication, wolves and humans pushed their boundaries against each other  and the gray wolf bred with newly domesticated dogs. This created a mutation of deep black wolves, the origins of which remained a mystery for centuries. Around the world, the black wolf mutation has been  revered for its startling uniqueness. Some consider the mutation to be its own species, others consider the mutation a highly sought after prize.

Black Wolf’s desire to stand out from the crowd, has created a sound, that like the wolves, is provocative, rich and boundary pushing. Lee combines genre-pushing electronics with deep multi-instrumentalism to unleash the beast of the black wolf. Black Wolf is a more efficient vehicle capable of delivering a message more potent than any other musical endeavor of Lee’s. As a project, it incorporates tonal poetry, heavy, pulsing, electronic grooves and harmonies with the grunge and beauty of live trombone, for a sound that lives somewhere between house, trance and industrial music. The magic of Black Wolf is as mysterious and powerful as its animal namesake, straining to be released into the world.
